Rough Shoot at Calver, Derbyshire, Peak District

Rough Shoots

Good Hedges, some small woods ditches. 800 acres of quality hill, gorse woodland. There are known deer in the area and this is an isolated piece of land with plenty of ground game abounding.

rough-shoot-calder.jpgIt doubles up as a rough shoot tough walking but an excellent track runs through re middle of the land. With ponds in one section. Peter Harpley’s uncle owns the land and 2 members only per day will be accompanied.

What species on land:

  • Pheasant
  • Pigeon
  • Partridge
  • Roe Deer
  • Hare
  • Rabbit


  • Pheasant – October 1st – February 1st
  • Partridge – September 1st – February 1st
  • Pigeon – No closed season
  • Mallard – inland September 1st – January 31st
  • Snipe – October 1st –January 31st
  • Woodcock – October 1st – January 31st

Weapons required:

  • Shotgun shoot only.

Location and how to get there:
From Calver on the B6001 at the top of the hill is a lay-by you could park here and walk down the hill se map for land area, if you continue for 500 yd’s first turn left is our boundary up to the first wire fencing on the hill other side of woodland, the bigger area is a further 300 yd’s down and park on the right not blocking the entrance, its an entrance to a quarry follow mapping for boundaries we should get a key for metal gate and leave it at a local paper shop in Hassop, phone me on 0702-1114746 for advise.
